Southwest Challenge a Success!

Well another successful Southwest Challenge has gone by as we now wind down the cycling season.  This year's event brought over 120 cyclists from Toronto, Sarnia, Kitchener and of course London.  Amazingly, $50,000 was raised for the Children's Health Foundation.  Thankfully, there were no major accidents despite the very rainy conditions.  Some were calling it the Southwet Challenge.  Of course it was all for a great cause.  Thanks to all who participated by fundraising and in many cases donated to make this year a tremendous success.  Thanks too, to all our sponsors.  Also, thanks to the over 30 volunteers and also to our SWC committee who also put in a lot of time and effort to help this come to fruition.

On a side note - we have extra, limited edition SWC jerseys and Bib shorts for sale for $75 and $100 respectively.  We also have some SWC socks by Defeet for sale till they're gone - for only $5.  Email me at lcwswc@gmail.com.

LCW Club Champions

General News

Congratulations to the 2013 LCW club champions

A Division.  Gold: Mike Aston (124 points), Silver: Peter Mogg (84 points), Bronze: Will Simmonds (57 points)

Women.  Gold: Emily McKenzie-Picot (43 points), Silver: Stephanie Bester (25 points), Bronze: Joyce Spruyt (21 points)

U19 men.  Gold: Will Simmonds (22 points)

B Division.  Gold: Denny Saunders (42 points), Silver: Ben Dobie (34 points), Bronze: Eric MacDonald (22 points)

In the major divisions, the club championship is based on best 5 placings in each of the road race, criterium, and time trial disciplines.  In the B division is it based on points earned in each event throughout the year.  To be eligible in the U19 divisions, riders must complete at least 3 races in each of the disciplines.  U19 and women riders who place top 5 in an A or B race earn separate points in the A or B competitions as well as points in their own division.  U19 and women riders who compete in an A race are considered to have finished the event ahead of those in their category who competed in the B race on condition that they finish with the field.  If they are dropped they are considered to have finished the event behind those who competed in their category in the B race.  Points are 10, 7, 5, 3, 2 in the A division and 7, 5, 3, 2, 1 for top 5 in all other divisions.  Where fewer than 5 riders compete points are awarded from the bottom up to finishers from last to first.  DNF's in the top 5 earn no points but bump up the points awarded to the remaining finishers as they would have had they completed the race.  A complete breakdown of this year's results can be viewed under the training menu item.
